GOZIGEN-USA2009-08-11

10th Merdeka Millennium Endurance (MME) 12-hour race was held at Sepang International Circuit, Malaysia August 6 - 9. Team 5ZIGEN participated in this race and finished 7th in A2 class, 16th in overall. This was not the best result we have expected. However, it was still great that we could finish the first race we participated with brand new race car. We proud of all drivers and team members who brought the FD2 to the finish line!!

8/6 Scrutineering - 5ZIGEN Civic Type-R is line to safety check. The wheels are FN01R-C Hot Version 18x8.5 Black / Red Line. Exhaust system was modified ProRacer ZZ which the center resonator was taken out. One of the purposes of this race was testing our products. This car was build with less special race only parts, as “running laboratory.”

8/6 Practice - Our CEO as well as experienced racing driver Mr. Kinoshita is behind the wheel. He checked the condition of the car until our regular drivers were arrived from Japan.

8/6 After Practice - Engine problem was found at the night practice session. The team decided to swap to the spare engine. All mechanics worked on the car at the pit by 4:00 am....

8/7 Qualify - The Civic started the qualify session with new engine. It should be no problem now... But, this time, the starvation symptom came out at turns. The problem was solved by the time our 3rd driver drove, but we did not have enough time to get good lap time for good position. Our frustrating qualify session finished when the Civic got class 12th, overall 31st.

8/8 Race Final - 5ZIGEN Civic on the starting grid. Finally, the race started. Even our starting position was not good, but the checker flag is 12 hours ahead. We believed our drivers should catch up the position.

8/8 Race Final - After for a while from race started, the fuel starvation problem came out again. Mechanics tried to find the cause at every pit stop, but it could not find it whether it was by the pump, the filter or the line...

8/8 Race Final - Drivers have carefully been lapping the car to prevent engine blow by the fuel problem. After passed 6 hours, crew chief decided to change entire fuel system because he found a car which had same problem retired with engine blow. After spending precious one hour, the car was re-born for full attack!!

8/9 Race Finished - A happy group picture with Tracy Sports who race together at Super Taikyu.
5ZIGEN Civic divers recorded super laps and caught up the position after the problem was fixedand. However, the checker flag was down when the Civic reached to 3 laps behind to the class leader, even there were 10 laps gap. The result was A2 class 7th, overall 16th. The result was not so good, but the team could bring back a lot of data for next enduro race and for product development.
Lastly, we thank all support from 5ZIGEN users, fans and sponsors.
